About the 310 area code
The 310 area code was created in 1991 when AT&T split the 213 NPA, which until then had covered most of Los Angeles County. 213 kept downtown LA. 310 took the Westside — Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice, the South Bay beach cities, and parts of LAX-adjacent territory. In 2006 the 424 overlay was layered on top of 310 to absorb new demand.
Today 310 covers a defined slice of LA: roughly everything west of La Brea Avenue and south to about Torrance, including the entire coastal strip from Pacific Palisades down through Manhattan Beach. It excludes most of Hollywood (323), Downtown (213), the San Fernando Valley (818), and East LA (323 / 626).
Why a 310 number still matters in 2026
A 310 number in Los Angeles signals one of two things: entertainment industry, or money. Often both. Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and the higher-end Santa Monica zip codes all live inside 310. The talent agencies — CAA in Century City, WME in Beverly Hills, UTA in Beverly Hills — all dial out from 310 main lines. So do most of the production companies, post houses, and management firms that orbit them.
Outside entertainment, 310 carries the same kind of weight inside LA's wealth-management, real estate, and luxury hospitality circles that 212 carries in New York. A 310 number reaches a Brentwood family-office contact differently than a 626 number from Pasadena, even if the work is identical.
For sales and outreach, 310 has measurable pickup-rate lift on calls into Westside LA prospects. Recipients screen out-of-state codes and 800 numbers; 310 reads as "could be someone I know." If your prospects work in agencies, studios, or Westside boutique firms, a 310 caller ID is closer to a key than to a marketing gimmick.
If you're trying to look like a Burbank or Studio City operator, 310 is the wrong choice — that's 818 territory, and a 310 reads as "wrong side of the hill." Code-to-place specificity matters here more than in most US cities.
What's inside the 310 area code
What's inside 310:
- Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Holmby Hills, Westwood
- Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Mar Vista, Venice
- Malibu — the entire coastline up to the Ventura County line
- Culver City, Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey
- The South Bay beach cities: Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo
- Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Torrance, Lomita, Lawndale, Carson
- San Pedro and Wilmington — the port-of-LA strip
- Catalina Island
What's not:
- Downtown LA, Hollywood, Echo Park, Silver Lake — 213 and 323
- The San Fernando Valley including Studio City and Burbank — 818
- Pasadena, Glendale, Alhambra — 626
- Long Beach — 562
- East LA and Whittier — 323 and 562
The 424 overlay added in 2006 covers exactly the same footprint as 310. New assignments today usually come out as 424 — pure 310 inventory is scarce enough that VoIP providers like Voklit obtain it primarily through churn and wholesale acquisition.
Cultural note: 310 has appeared in song titles (Snoop Dogg's "310"), in TV (Beverly Hills 90210 is a 90210/310 town), and in a hundred LA-set screenplays. It's the second-most culturally recognized West Coast area code after 415. That recognition is part of why people insist on 310 over 424 even when functionally identical.
Who uses 310 numbers
Production companies, agents, managers, casting offices. Entertainment industry contact discovery in LA still runs on phone numbers, and 310 is the default expectation for Westside industry outreach.
Real estate agents on the Westside and in the South Bay. Buyers expect a 310 number on a Pacific Palisades listing the way New Yorkers expect 212 on Upper East Side listings. A 310 caller ID into a Brentwood seller blunts the cold-call resistance.
Boutique law firms, wealth advisors, family-office-adjacent practices. A 310 number signals proximity to Brentwood and Beverly Hills capital. For boutiques competing against the LA offices of national firms, that signal is a low-cost positioning lever.
Out-of-market businesses doing LA outreach. New York agencies opening LA offices, international fashion or luxury brands serving Westside boutiques, tech companies courting Hollywood as customers — they buy 310 before signing the West LA lease.
Solo professionals: photographers, stylists, personal trainers, concierge services. The Westside-LA service economy runs on text-and-call client relationships. A 310 number on an Instagram bio reads local to a Westside clientele that doesn't recognize 818, 626, or 909.
Who shouldn't bother: 310 adds no value for businesses selling outside greater LA. It also adds no value if your customers are inland — Pasadena, Burbank, the Inland Empire. Match the code to the geography of your actual prospects.
How to get a 310 number with Voklit
Two paths:
Pick from existing inventory. Sign up, pick a plan, search 310. Available numbers display in the picker; pick and activate. Provisioning takes under a minute. Inventory turns over daily as customers come and go.
Wholesale acquisition. When 310 inventory is empty, we can sometimes acquire a number from the wholesale pool with 48–72 hour lead time and a one-time fee. This is the path when you need a specific NXX prefix or you've waited a week and the regular pool hasn't refreshed.
Note on the alternative: 424 is the modern overlay for the same geography. If 310 is unavailable and you can live with 424, you'll have selection. Functionally there's no difference — same coverage, same routing, same recipient experience for anyone under 30. Older Westside recipients still register 310 as more prestigious.
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Voklit provisions numbers over the internet, so a 310 line is yours regardless of where you live. International customers — Europe, Australia, Asia — run 310 numbers from a laptop or mobile app daily. No SIM card and no US tower required.
No. We require a billing address matching your payment method for fraud screening, but it can be any country or US state. US e911 registration is optional and only matters if you plan to dial 911 from the line — most international customers skip it.
Yes — both SMS and MMS, on the Pro+ plan ($9.99/mo). The standard caveats apply: WhatsApp registration and a few US bank 2FA flows now block VoIP numbers at the class level. Stripe, PayPal, Coinbase, Discord, and most consumer-app sign-up flows work without issue on 310 lines.
Yes. It's drawn from the 310 NPA-NXX inventory the major carriers use, registered to Voklit with the FCC, and tied to real Los Angeles routing. CNAM lookups return Voklit by default; the area code and the line behave as a genuine Westside LA number.
Not currently. Voklit doesn't support port-in — you pick a new 310 from our available inventory or request a wholesale acquisition. If bringing an existing number with you is essential, you'll need a provider that offers port-in.
From inventory: under 60 seconds. Wholesale acquisition for specific 310 prefixes: 48–72 hours. Most customers are calling and texting on a fresh 310 line within minutes of signup.
If our 310 pool is empty, two options: pick a 424 (the LA Westside overlay — identical coverage, usually plenty of inventory), or request a wholesale acquisition with a one-time fee. The 424 fallback is the fastest path if you need a Westside LA line today.
Yes. Stripe accepts 310 Voklit numbers without issue (receiving verification texts requires the Pro+ plan). PayPal accepts them but occasionally flags new VoIP numbers — a single support call clears it. Coinbase, Binance US, Kraken, and most fintech onboarding flows accept Voklit lines for SMS verification.
310 is Westside and South Bay specifically. Hollywood proper is 323 (Hollywood was carved out of 213 in 1998). If your work centers on Hollywood Boulevard, La Brea, or Silver Lake, a 323 number is the right code. 310 is for Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Malibu, and the beach cities.
